HERKIMER: Leona T. Morra, age 90, a long time Herkimer resident, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Sondra, with the loving care of her family. Born in Tupper Lake, NY on August 10, 1921, Leona was the daughter of the late Joseph and Philomena (LaFave) Bernier. She was educated in St. Francis de Sales Schools in Herkimer and was employed as a label maker for Gordon Manufacturing of Herkimer. On April 26, 1940 she was united in marriage to Rocco L. Morra in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer; a 64 year union built on love, support and mutual respect until his passing on March 31, 2005. As the matriarch of the Morra family, Leona was a caregiver to her husband and a wonderful mother and grandmother. A genuine, kind and gentle mannered person, she opened her home over the years to her family who always found a nurturing, warm and open environment and she always put everyone else before herself, even up until the day she passed. Leona enjoyed simple pleasures like gardening, canning, crocheting, knitting and doing crossword puzzles. A gifted cook and baker, Leona's home was always filled with the scents of homemade Italian Cuisine, especially during the holidays. She was devoted to her patron St. Anthony. Leona is survived by her beloved family: her sons, Tony Morra and Ben Morra and wife Michele all of Herkimer; a daughter, Sondra Stagliano and husband Mario of Herkimer; her cherished grandchildren, Brock Morra, Joseph Stagliano and wife Pam, Melissa Naegele and husband Steven, Michelle Blais and husband Mike, Marla Stagliano and Tricia Giffune, Ryan Morra and wife Jessica and Amanda Morra; her adoring great grandchildren, Antonio and Joshua Morra, Alyssa and Joey Stagliano, Isabella, Gulianna and Steven Naegele, Sophia and Brent Blais, Rocco Giffune Stagliano, Michael and Emily Morra, Dylan Walsh and Noah Macrina; her in-laws, Joseph Morra and Patricia Rickard, Rose Caliguire, Jetta and Jim Aiello, Angela and Ned Bingham and Patty and Bob Volo and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Leona's funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger Street, Herkimer, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor. There are no public calling hours. Interment will take place in the spring at Calvary Cemetery.
