Obituary of John F. Daly

Little Falls: Mr. John "Jack" F. Daly, of Loomis Street, beloved husband of Helen, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. Jack was born on October 9, 1930 in Little Falls, the son of John L. and Loretta (Skinner) Daly. He attended St. Mary's Academy, graduating with of the Class of 1949. He was a lifelong Little Falls resident. Jack enlisted in the US Navy in August 1950 and proudly served on the USS Hawkins. He was honorably discharged in June 1954. On April 21, 1956, Jack and Helen Dinneen were married in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. Jack was employed by the New York State Office of Mental Health in Utica, retiring in 1989. For twenty years, he served as Alderman for the Third Ward, City of Little Falls. Jack was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish, the Little Falls Elks Lodge, Little Falls American Legion, Staff Sgt. Steve Stefula Post VFW, DeCarlo Staffo Post No. 8, and the Little Falls Polish Community Home. Jack is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, J. Michael and wife Donna of New Hartford; daughters, Maureen D. Uerz and husband Jeffrey of Mechanicsville, VA, Patricia D. Bodin and husband John of Walpole, MA, and Kathleen Daly of Schenectady; grandchildren, Jennifer Uerz, Christopher Uerz and wife Kristen, Andrew Bodin, Rebecca Daly, Lauren Bodin, Patrick Daly and Rachel Daly. He leaves a sister, Judy Ropeter and her husband Don of Palm Bay, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He also leaves special friends, the Jodway family, Bernard and Mary Beth, Matthew, Adam and Natalia. Jack was forever grateful for their friendship, love and support. Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Loretta, and sisters Marilyn Welpe and Shirley Springer. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls (823-2424). Jack's funeral will commence on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 with prayer at 10:45 am at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass, celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Lawless at 11:30 am in Holy Family Parish Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where Jack will be laid to rest. The Little Falls Elks will meet at the funeral home at 6 pm to conduct their ritualistic service. The Little Falls American Legion and VFW will meet at 6:30 to offer their combined service. The family would like to thank the Herkimer Oncology Group at Herkimer Healthcare, and the staff of the fourth floor of Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown for the excellent care and compassion shown during Jack's illness. In lieu of floral offerings, donations may be made in Jack's memory to Holy Family Parish, E. Main Street, Little Falls, NY 13365, Little Falls Food Bank, 45 Furnace Street, Little Falls, NY 13365, or American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Place, Utica, NY 13502.
