Obituary of Mary Louise Weiss

Richfield Springs: Mary Louise Kohler Weiss, age 56, of 851 McKoons Road, is singing and dancing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her earthly pain and suffering from the cancer gone. Only broken hearts are left behind… Mary passed away at Bassett Healthcare on Sunday, March 4, 2012. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. An area resident for more than 32 years, Mary was born on January 20, 1956 in Queens, the daughter of the late Alexander Kohler and Marie Seibert Kohler. Most of her education was in the Huntington, NY area, although she graduated from high school in New Hartford. After high school, she attended Mohawk Valley Community College and went on to receive her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in teaching at Oneonta College. On May 31, 1980, she was united in marriage to George W. Weiss at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Richfield Springs. They made their home in Richfield Springs. Mary was a Kindergarten teacher at Richfield Springs Central School. She home-schooled all four of her children. She was currently a Sunday school teacher and, at present, was on the board at her church, Christian Assembly of Schuyler. She enjoyed being a homemaker. In her leisure time, she made beautiful hand drawn cards and pictures with Bible verses. Mary enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She was very talented. Mary loved spending time with her Lord and writing in her journal. She felt her greatest accomplishment in her life were her four children. To all who knew her, Mary was a beautiful, kind, spirit filled Christian woman. She had a way of making every person she was around feel special and loved. She will be greatly missed by her many family and friends. Surviving besides her devoted husband, George of nearly 32 years, are her daughter Elyse and Matthew Kane of Ilion; three sons, Charles G., Robert J., and Michael D. and Meaghan, all of Richfield Springs; along with her grandchildren, Katelyn and Abigail Kane and Isabelle Weiss. She also leaves a brother, Alan P. Kohler of Fayetteville; three sisters, Judy and Ray Dunlop and Lynn Johnson, all of Floral City, FL, and Cathy and Bruce Larrabee of Dunedin, FL; her mother-in-law, Bernice Folts Weiss; two sisters-in-law, Theresa and Dan Sullivan, and Priscilla and David Edick; two brothers-in-law, John Weiss and David and Lori Weiss, all of Richfield Springs.; in-laws, Phillip and Susan Kane of Herkimer and Steve and Jean Coolis of Richfield Springs; along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rick Kohler and her father-in-law, Peter F. Weiss, Jr. The family wishes to express special thanks to Bassett Healthcare and the Cancer Center for their wonderful care and compassion. If so led, expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the family to help with the accumulated medical bills. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Bob Burge of Christian Assembly of Schuyler, on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Noon at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, March 7, and before the funeral from 10 am-Noon. Interment will take place in the spring in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. The family is being served by Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Director.
