Obituary of Raymond L. Entwistle

Raymond L. Entwistle, 85, of Herkimer, passed away in the morning hours of Friday, March 23, 2012, he did so with dignity as he lived his life. At seventeen he joined the United States Navy and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima and later served on the USS New York. Immediately following the service Ray established Veterans Taxi Service. Later he then established Ray's Shell Service and was the first to offer dollar car washes and five gallons of gas for a buck. Soon after that Ray started Ramar Home Improvements, a cutting edge business where he would travel door to door and sell merchandise for a dollar down and a dollar a week, mostly in Little Falls and Dolgeville areas. Ray eventually purchased Dick and Orie's Restaurant and turned it into the Landmark Village Inn which he then reestablished as Ramar Liquors in 1969. He always had candy for the customers children who affectionately called him Uncle Ray. Ray was a successful businessman for over forty five years, and to my knowledge was one of a few businessman who had multiple business adventures with no failures. He optimized everything a man stands for. Gentle yet strong, stern yet loving, and above all fair and honest. Always ready to lend a helping hand. Ray is survived by his wife of sixty five years, Marie; his son, Mark Entwistle; his brothers, Bob Entwislte and Don Entwislte; his sisters, Sherly Edick and Sandy Marusic; his many loving grandchildren ; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Raymond M. Entwistle, October 24, 2011. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, on Tuesday March 27, 2012 from 5-8PM. Ray's funeral will commence on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11am, from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Lawless. Spring interment will take place at the convenience of the family. The world was a better place because he was in it, as Heaven is now. Pop say hi to Raymond, Jr. for us. Online condolences in Ray's memory may be offered by visiting www.eneafamily.com
