Obituary of Minnie Wezalis

HERKIMER - Mrs. Minnie Wezalis, age 94, a cherished lifelong resident of the Southside of Herkimer, beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Wezalis, passed away peacefully this morning Wednesday March 28, 2012 at her residence. Minnie was born April 14, 1917, in Eschsurallzette, Luxenburg the daughter of the late Francisco and Antoinette Piccini Vedovati. Her and her family came to this area very earlier in her life, where she attended Herkimer schools. On September 27, 1941, Minnie was united in marriage to Joseph W. Wezalis in St. Anthony's Church by Rev. Gustav Purificato. Mr. Wezalis passed away April 22, 2002. Minnie at one time was employed at Derby's Sportswear, Herkimer. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer and also a member of the Rosary Society, the 3rd Order of St. Francis, the Sacred Heart Society, the Herkimer Polish Club Auxiliary, and AARP. Minnie immensely enjoyed helping others and playing cards on Wednesdays and Fridays with the girls. She was given the Award for Hours for Others for her time dedicated to making hats for newborns by the Senior Corp for Catholic Charities. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William A. Wezalis of Herkimer, Richard F. and Diana Wezalis of Lundenberg, PA, and Robert M. and Catherine Wezalis of N. Hampshire; her daughter Margaret Riesel of Herkimer; her twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Minnie was predeceased by her brothers, Nuncio (Joseph) Vedovati and John Vedovati; her niece, Annette Carpenter and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Wezalis and son-in-law, Richard Riesel. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Friday, March 30, 2012, from 5-8pm. Minnie's funeral will commence, Saturday, March 31, 2012, from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer at 9am, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Lawless. Spring interment will be made in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Minnie's memory, may be offered to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or the American Cancer Society.
