HERKIMER - Sandra L. "Sandy" Hovey, age 65, of 433 McKennan Road, Herkimer, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and support of her family on Thursday evening, March 29, 2012. Sandy was born on April 15, 1946 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late David J. and Doris I. (Bluett) Morse. She was a graduate of Milford Schools and has been a resident of Herkimer for more than 45 years. She was formerly married to Emerson Ferris and Elmo Hovey. Sandy was a Developmental Aid for Rome DDSO. She loved her job and the clients that she worked with so much that she volunteered many hours of her free time with the clients. It was not uncommon for clients to be included in family vacations and celebrations. Sandy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ilion. Sandy is survived by her sons, David Ferris and his wife Melissa of Virginia and Derrick Ferris and his girlfriend Julie of Herkimer; daughters, Gladys Hovey of Herkimer, Abbie Wright and her husband Ken of Ilion, and Erin Ferlo and her husband Michael of Mohawk; sisters, Marjorie Eldred and her husband Donald of Hartwick and Marilyn Atwell and her husband Chuck of Milford. She also leaves her adored grandchildren, Vanessa Ferris, Courtney Wright, Tyler Ferris, Christina Wright, Mariah Ferris, Rachel Ferris, Emily Ferlo, Judson Ferris, and Sandy Ferlo; five great-grandchildren, Sierra, Michael, Caitlyn, Brian and Brianna; her nieces, Bonnie and Tammy; nephew Ryan and many cousins and dear friends. She also leaves two very special people in her life, Mary Johnson and Susie Gilliland of Rome DDSO. Sandy's memorial service will be conducted by the Reverend Andy Peloubet on Friday evening, April 6, 2012 at 6pm in the First Baptist Church of Ilion. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church, and all are cordially invited to attend.
