Mohawk: Herbert L. McKinney, 77, of Mohawk, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012 in Little Falls Hospital. Herbert was born on April 9, 1934 in Cold Brook, a son of Jefferson and Viola McKinney. He was educated in Herkimer Schools and has lived the major part of his life in this area. After school, he became a member of the United States Air Force. On August 13, 1955, he and Beverly J. Fike were married in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Mr. McKinney was a supervisor at the Remington Arms Co., Ilion. He also worked for the Herkimer County Sherriff's Department as Chief Civil Officer, then as a court attendant. He was a former volunteer for the Mohawk Fire Department, Alexander Hose Company and is now an active member of the Mohawk Exempt Fire Department. Members of the Department will meet at the funeral home at 6 pm for their service. He was also a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Herbert is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; sons, Paul McKinney and his wife Sandra of Rome and James McKinney and his wife Debbie of Dolgeville; brothers, Leonard McKinney and his wife Helen of Georgia and Dean McKinney of Fort Herkimer; a sister, Gloria Bunce of Herkimer; and grandchildren, Katie, Connor, Joel, Kolten, Cody; and a special family friend, Dan Belgrader; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy and Millie, and brothers, Carl and Jeff. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion/Frankfort (894-8000). Herbert's funeral, conducted by the Reverend Thomas Lawless, will take place at the conclusion of calling hours, at 8 pm, at the funeral home. There will be a graveside service conducted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, with full military honors on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 10 am in Mohawk Cemetery, John Street, Mohawk. Herbert's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Alpine Rehabilitation Center and the Little Falls Hospital.
