Obituary of Elizabeth M. Farnell
MOHAWK-ILION - Elizabeth "Libby" M. Farnell, age 90, of 126 W. Main St., Mohawk, formerly of Ilion, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, with her family by her side.
She was born on April 29, 1921, in the town of Leyden, NY, the daughter of Charles and Dora Mary (Scouten) Mullin. Elizabeth attended a one room school house in Schuyler and a one room school house on Old Forge Rd., in Ilion, and graduated from the Utica School of Commerce in 1939. She won the Herkimer County Spelling Bee in 1935. On March 24, 1958, she was married to Alfred Farnell. He died on May 31, 1969. At one time she was employed at Willowvale Bleachery, Remington Arms Co., General Dry Battery Co., Edwards Box Co., Gloversville, and Sperry-Rand UNIVAC. Elizabeth loved her family. She enjoyed gardening, all kinds of sports and cards, especially Pitch. Libby was an avid New York Yankee Fan.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Carol Bishop, of Louisville, KY; two stepsons, Thomas Farnell and his wife, Bea, of Little Falls, and Alfred Farnell and his wife, Pat, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Barbara Lamphere and husband, Lee, Jennifer Winkler and husband, Russell, Sandy and Sharon Farnell, Kim Christopher and husband, Vinnie, and Amy Kozlowski and husband, Brett; three nieces, Sharon Harter and husband, Jim, Cathy Combs, and Virginia Jaquish and husband, Bill; one nephew, Lyle Borden and Jean Coones; and several great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her two sisters, Addie Oaksford and Florence Borden; her brother-in-law, Lyle Borden, Sr.; and several aunts and uncles.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (old Main St. between Ilion and Frankfort), with Elder Kenneth W. Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, or H.A.L.O.(Helping Animals Live Organization). Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
