Obituary of Gwen G. Dennis

ILION - Gwendolyn "Gwen" G. Dennis, age 72, of 15 Armory St., Ilion, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 4, 2012, at home. She was born on January 11, 1940, in Hudson, NY; the daughter of Richard and Millie (Darling) Dallas, and attended school in Mohawk. At one time, she was married to William Neale, Jr. Gwen later married Carl Dennis, Sr., in June 1978, in Ilion. She was a member of the kitchen staff employed at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for several years. Mrs. Dennis was a life member, trustee, bingo caller, and past President of the VFW Auxiliary Post 502, Ilion-Frankfort. Survivors include her husband, Carl; one son, Bill "Spike" Neale III and his wife, Diane, of Mohawk; one sister, Pauline Barringer, of Ilion; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard "Rick" and Joanne Dallas, of Dolgeville; several step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and a very special friend, Ruth Ann Gott. She was predeceased by her parents and granddaughter, Becky. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (old Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort), with Mr. James Cogar, Chaplain of the Ilion-Frankfort VFW Post 502, officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 8, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. Members of the Ilion-Frankfort VFW Auxiliary Post 502 will conduct a traditional ritual service at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Ilion-Frankfort VFW Post 502. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Dennis family has entrusted all funeral service arrangements and supervision to their family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
