Obituary of Jane M. Herlehy

MOHAWK-WHITESBORO - Jane M. Herlehy, age 60, of Mohawk, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in the comfort of her home, with the love and support of her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. It was a long and painful road she traveled with strength, dignity, and grace. Her journey on this earth is done and she can now rest in peace with the Lord, to watch over and guide those she has left behind. Jane was born on November 7, 1951, in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Ted and Wanda Domagalski. Jane grew up in Yorkville and graduated from Whitesboro Central School, class of 1969. After graduating suma cum laude from Cortland in 1973, Jane was employed by Whitesboro Central School as a Health teacher for thirty-six years. On July 20, 1974, Jane married Tim Herlehy, the love of her life, in the Polish National Catholic Church in New York Mills. During Jane's teaching career she was actively involved in the Teacher's Union and held several offices including Building Rep., Recording Secretary and Treasurer. Jane also served as a Master Teacher to several Student Teachers and was a member of the Whitesboro Tuition Committee for many years. A loving mother to Kelly and Tim's soul mate, Jane was blessed with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. Her hobbies included gardening, golf, cross country skiing, fly fishing, fishing on the St. Lawrence and traveling, especially to Florida each winter, but of all her hobbies, reading was her passion and nothing pleased her more than to curl up on the deck at camp over looking the water with a good book. Survivors include her husband of almost thirty-eight years, Tim; her beautiful daughter, Kelly; her sister, Joan Zych and her husband, John, of Collinsville, IL; her nieces and nephew and their spouses and children, Tanya and Paul Hendrickson and their children, Savannah, Ethan, Mayah, Shawn, Tammy and Brett Palmier and their daughters Iris and T.J. and Sarah Zych and their children Audrey and Charlie; her mother-in-law, Rita Brown, of Mohawk; and several cousins. In addition to her parents and father-in-law, Werner Brown, Jane was predeceased by several aunts and uncles and by her sweet faithful dog, Maiya. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Eric Bravin, Dr. Joy Anderson, FNP Kate Leonardo of Bassett Cancer Center in Cooperstown, and to our cousin, Shirley Lubey, for all of her help during this difficult time. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated By Father Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, officiating, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Burial will be in New Mohawk Cemetery Annex, Rt. 28, Mohawk, NY. Calling hours are Monday, May 28, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (old Main St. between Ilion and Frankfort).
