Obituary of Richard Whitney

FAIRFIELD: Richard J. "Dick" Whitney, age 67, a lifelong Fairfield resident, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at his home with the love and support of his family. Dick was born in Little Falls on July 27, 1944 the son of the late Wallace and Betty (Harrad) Whitney. He graduated from West Canada High School and worked for over 45 years as a car dealer in the Mohawk Valley. Dick was the owner and operator of Whitney Motors. On May 5, 1984 he married Jessie Lamanna and at the time of his passing they were married 28 years in a loving, sharing, committed relationship. Dick considered his family to be the most important part of his life and enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Adrian. Dick loved to ride horses, fish, tending to his yard work and spending time with his canine companion, Max. Watching cowboy movies was also a favorite past time. He is survived by his beloved wife Jessie; his daughter, Donna Whitney of Fairfield and her companion Don Foor; his son, Richard Whitney, Jr. of Herkimer; a special niece of whom Dick thought of as a daughter, Jacklyn Whitney and her companion Adam Lawrence; a grandson, Adrian Sky Lawrence; a brother, Jack Whitney and companion Hazel Hyney of Canajoharie, an aunt, June Garlock of Middelville; his in-laws, Carm and Tony Trimboli, Pat and Dom Petucci and Rose Marie Lamanna all of Herkimer, Ann Whitney, the mother of his children and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He also leaves his special canine companion, Max. Dick is predeceased by a brother, Douglas Harrad, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Michael and Vera Lamanna and a brother-in-law, Clem Lamanna. The Whitney family is grateful to Dr. Deepak Buch, Dr. Charles Eldredge and staff, the Herkimer Dialysis Unit and especially the Hospice Team of Joyce and Ann for their care, kindness and compassion throughout his illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011. In lieu of floral arrangements, those wishing to express an act of kindness in the form of a memorial contribution may consider Valley Health Services or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dick's funeral on Thursday, May 31, 2012 beginning with prayer at 8:45 am at the funeral home and at 9:30 am at Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, S. Main Street, Herkimer where his Funeral Mass will be offered by Rev. Thomas Lawless. The family is being cared for by Harry J. Enea, Funeral Director.
