Obituary of Thomas String

FORT PLAIN- Mr.Thomas N. String Jr. , 82, of Main St. & of late,a patient of Saint Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam,passed away June 8th 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Gloversville,NY on March 13th 1930 to Thomas String Sr. & Sarah (Neyhard )String. Tom attended Gloversville High School & attended The North Main Street Methodist Church,also in Gloversville. He was married to his first wife,the former Sally Richey, in Gloversville ,& resided in Dennie's Crossing,Gloversville.Tom then married the former Carol Ball.They were married in The Newport Methodist Church in 1968 and remained happily married until Carol's death in October 2000. Tom is survived by his daughter,Lori Yerdon & her partner,Randy Acovangelo of Saint Johnsville; a son,Bert Ball String,& his wife,Luci of Endwell,NY & special son,Michael J. O' Connell & his wife Karen,who reside outside of Fort Plain.There are four grandchildren: Julie Yerdon,ofSaint Johnsville,Nicholas,Samantha & Gabrielle String of Endwell,NY & Christopher & Jonathan O'Connell ofFort Plain. Tom is also survived by his brother,C. Robert String & his wife, Norma of Utica and by his sister-in-law,Barbra String & her family of Johnstown and his numerous aunts,uncles & cousins. Tom enjoyed fishing,hunting,& changing of the sports with the seasons: Footbal l(The NY Giants), Basketball (The New York Knicks), Baseball (The New York Yankees) & Hockey(The New York Rangers & The New York Islanders) He enjoyed attending a New York Yankees game with his daughter. He also was a fan of Syracuse University Basketball. Tom also enjoyed playing cards occasionally at The Valley Inn in Palatine Bridge.He was employed at various leather mills in Gloversville,until his injury in 1989 whereas he worked as a carrier for NBT Bank delivering mail,then as a driver for Access Transportation. Tom also played the drums for The Ralph Gardner Combo,playing gigs at The Holiday Inn. Tom was also a member of The Cherry Valley Fish & Game Club,& The Central Mohawk Valley Lions Club. He will greatly missed by everyone who knew & loved him. In keeping with Tom's wishes there are no calling hours. A religious service with be held at 2:30pm on Saturday June 16, 2012 at Fort Plain Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. The family is being comforted by the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville; John P. Lewandowski, Funeral Director.
