Obituary of Nicholas R. Netti

HERKIMER: Mr. Nicholas R. "Nick" Netti, age 85, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with the love and support of his family. Nick was born in Herkimer on February 3, 1927, the son of the late Nicholas and Caterina (Tinella) Netti. He was educated in the Herkimer Schools and in 1945 joined the United States Navy serving in World War II as a Seaman First Class. He was honorably discharged in August of 1946. On June 12, 1948 he married the former Josephine Ciano at St. Joseph's Church in Little Falls, with whom he shared 64 years of happiness, contentment, and unconditional love. For over 30 years, Nick worked in the family business of Netti & Sons Masonry. Nick was a member of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church. He formerly belonged to and served as past commander of the Anthony R. George Post and the Herkimer VFW. He was a member of the Local Bricklayer's Union, the Herkimer Crusaders, and he was also a charter member of the Local Disabled American Veterans Association. A "master gardener", Nick took great pride and put much effort into his garden. He was referred to as the "garlic man" and he took great pride in his annual crop. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he loved bowling, hunting, fishing, and relaxing on his back porch watching the birds. Nick was also a fixture at Yetty's and found great pleasure in riding herd on the Yetty's crew. For Nick, family functions were made special any time that he was surrounded by his wife and children, and his grandchildren and great grandson who especially enjoyed spending time with their "Pop". Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine of Herkimer; his sons, Theodore Netti and wife Karen of California, Nicholas J. Netti and wife Cheryl of Herkimer, and Salvatore Netti and wife Katy of Herkimer; his daughters, Barbara Netti of Herkimer, Felicia Netti of Mohawk, and Sylvia Lowell and husband Scott of Herkimer; his cherished grandchildren, Theodore Tuzzolino and wife Verenice, Danica and Nicholas A. Netti, Josephine Busack, Robert Hollum, Karlene and Robert Lowell, Gianna, Daniel and Katerina Netti; a great grandson, Lee Ramon Tuzzolino; a brother, Frank Netti of Herkimer; sisters, Mary Losito and husband Vito of Herkimer, and Rita Orcutt and husband Claude of Herkimer; sisters-in-law, Sue Crimmins of Herkimer, Margaret Courtney of California, and Effie Netti of Herkimer; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Catanzaro, and his brothers, Joseph, Carmen, and Salvatore Netti. The family wishes to acknowledge the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare ICU Unit for their care and compassion shown to Nick during these past few days. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011.
