Obituary of Rose Sokol

Herkimer: Rose Sokol, 90, of Lansing Street, Herkimer, and most recently, of Mohawk ValleyHealthcare Center, Ilion, passed away on July 18, 2012. Rose was born on November 5, 1921 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Panko Sokol and Eva (Fesh) Sokol. She was a graduate of Herkimer Schools. Rose was employed at Fisher Auto Seat, and was a seamstress and dress style instructor for many years, retiring in 1983. She was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Herkimer, a past member of the "R" Club, St. Anna's Altar Society, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Rose leaves behind her beloved sisters, Ann Sokol Danielak and her husband Stanley of Herkimer, Nellie Hrynda of Ellenville, NY, Helen and Christine Sokol of Herkimer, and Mildred Sokol of Folcroft, PA. She is also survived by her nephew, Dr. Deacon Paul Sokol and his wife, Dr. Mat Patricia of Flemington, NJ; nieces, Julie Sokol Todd and her husband Thomas of Herkimer, Rosanne Hatch of Baldwinsville, NY, Sandra Hrynda Oglesby and her husband Donald of Ellenville, NY, Debra Danielak Lack and her husband Geff of Long Island, NY; great-nieces, Nicole and Natalie Todd, Alexandra Hrynda, Nia and Ina Oglesby, Mary Lack; and great-nephews, Zachary Sokol, Aiden and Austin Hrynda, Luke Kinney, Ian Oglesby, and William Lack. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael P. Sokol and his wife Josephine, a sister, Mary Sokol Lepkowski and her husband Leon, and a brother-in-law, Metro Hrynda. Rose will be dearly missed and remembered by her family and friends, as she always showed compassion and contributed with working hands toward her family and community. Relatives are friends are invited to pay their respects at Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, with Parastas service at 7 pm. Rose's funeral will commence on Monday, July 23, 2012 with prayer at 9:30 am at the funeral home, continuing at Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church at 10 am, with Archpriest John Udics officiating. We will then process to Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery, Herkimer, where Rose will be laid to rest. The Sokol family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Archpriest John Udics for the spiritual guidance and friendship offered to Rose and her family, and also for the care and compassion shown by the staffs of the third floor of St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Mohawk Valley Rehabilitation Center.
