Obituary of Steve Yavornitzki

HERKIMER: Steve Yavornitzki, age 91, a long time East Herkimer resident, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Catholic Care Memory Center in Bel Aire, Kansas. He was born in Cleveland, OH on February 5, 1921, the son of the late Samuel and Anasztasia (Zazac) Yavornitzki. Steve married Eleanor J. Swietlikowski on March 2, 1946 in St. Joseph's Church, Herkimer. Eleanor passed away on November 22, 2010. Steve was a United States Navy Veteran, enlisting on October 21, 1942, and was honorably discharged on October 2, 1945. He was last employed as a territory manager for Maremont (C & L Auto Parts Warehouse) of Syracuse, NY. He was a member of the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, the Herkimer Polish Community Home, and the Herkimer VFW Post. Steve is survived by his beloved children, Stephen Joseph Yavornitzki and wife Cheryl of Andover, KS; Carol Ann Zawtocki and husband, Allan of Kaneohe, HI; and Suzanne Bornemann and husband, Volker of Oxford, NC; his cherished grandchild, Geoffrey Zawtocki and wife Christie; his great grandchildren, Stephanie Rose and Jason Cameron Zawtocki of Charlotte, NC and his step-grandchildren, Whitney Pipkin of Alexandria, VA, and Allison Coleman of Wichita, KS. Steve is also survived by his dear sister, Helen Stasco, of San Jose, CA; his in-laws, Ludmilla Swietlikowski and Donald (Dizzy) and wife Dolores Swietlikowski of Herkimer, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, his brothers, John and Harry Yavornitzki; his sisters, Eve Bielejec, Olga Lasowski, and Anne Malek. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY with the Reverend Thomas Lawless, officiating. Expressions of sympathy can be made in Steve's memory to the East Herkimer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the graveside service.
