Obituary of Michael Conforti

HERKIMER: Michael A. Conforti, age 61, of Steuben Hill Road, Herkimer, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at his home with his loving family at his side. Mike was born in Flushing, NY on August 16, 1950, the son of Adam and Rose (Gallelli) Conforti. In 1961, the family relocated to Richfield Springs, NY and became pioneers in the development and manufacturing in the mobile home industry. The corporation began as Richfield Springs Mobile Home and Conforti Manufacturing which was instrumental in developing his keen sense of trouble-shooting and problem solving. Mike graduated from Richfield Springs High School and Herkimer County Community College. Mike was extremely devoted to his wife Karen (Garski) of 41 years. They married on October 2, 1971 as high school sweethearts at St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs. In 1982, Mike began a lengthy professional career for what is now known as Goodrich Corporation located in Griffiss Business Park, Rome, NY. Everyone relied on Mike for his analytical problem solving abilities. He was very proud to be a member of the Goodrich Team as a senior manufacturing engineer. He was also an active member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. In his spare time, Mike had a passion for sports car racing and owned several American Muscle Cars. He competed at the local level in the 1970's and was the proud owner of "Ol Rumble Guts", which was a one of a kind record holding Egas 426 Hemi 40 Austin. Most of all, those who knew Mike knew he was at his happiest sharing a great meal with his family around the dinner table. He also enjoyed his special "date" Friday's with his wife Karen, spending quality time together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his loving children, Anthony M. and wife Suzanne Conforti of Dunedin, FL, Gina and husband James Werczynski of Herkimer, and Jacqueline and husband Jason Kinney of Herkimer; two beloved grandchildren, Adrian Justice Conforti and Trint Michael Kinney; a sister, Theresa Byard; the Garski family members and his beloved pets. He was predeceased by his mother and father. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion 315-894-8000 from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, July 22, 2012. Michael's funeral will commence on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10:00 am from the funeral home and at 11:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where his Funeral Mass will be offered by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Procession will then follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Conforti family has entrusted all funeral arrangements and supervision to Don Applegate, Funeral Director. To add to Mike's online memorials, please visit www.applegateandday.com.
