Obituary of Paul Sovis

Mr. Paul E. Sovis Jr. 91 a resident of the Folts Home in Herkimer and former Dolgeville resident died Saturday July 21, 2012 at the nursing home. He was born in Little Falls, New York on January 26, 1921 the son of Paul E. and Katie Sovis and was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1939. A veteran of World War II he served honorably in the United States Army from July 1942 until his discharge in November 1945 with the rank of Corporal. He served with the 380th Bomb Group in the following campaigns, Bismarck Archipelago, Luzon, New Guinea, Northern Solomon's and the Southern Philippines. He was awarded the following medals for his service, American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. His marriage to the former Violet Vedder took place in September 1948. Mrs. Sovis predeceased him on May 30, 1976. Paul was an employee of the Remington Arms Company of Ilion, retiring from there with 25 years of service several years ago. His personal interest and affiliations were with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club, and both the Little Falls and Dolgeville Golf leagues. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking along with craft shows. He is survived by his Sons and their wives Edward and Sue Sovis of California, Brian and Sharon Sovis of Dolgeville, his Grandchildren and their families, Jason and Dawn Sovis of Dolgeville Christopher and Alicia Sovis and their daughter Fila of Dolgeville, Edward P. Sovis Jr. and Stephanie and their children Hannah and Ali of Florida, Kirk and Tina Coffin and their children Zachary and Nicholas of Dolgeville, Jason and Gale Coffin and their children Kailee, Hannah, and Erica, additionally Nieces and Nephews. Private Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at the convenience of the family in the Dolgeville Cemetery. There are No calling hours. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society in his name. The family wishes to Thank Dr. Virenda Sharma and the nurse and staff of the fifth floor of Folts Home for the care and concern shown to their Father while he was a resident at the Folts Home.
