Obituary of Rose M Baldwin

MOHAWK - Mrs. Rose "Rosie" M. Baldwin, age 89, a longtime resident of 8 Columbia Place in Mohawk, passed away on Wednesday July 25, 2012 at St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. She was born on August 8, 1922 in Ilion, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Cacciatore) Nicolette. A lifelong area resident, she attended Ilion schools, and graduated with Ilion High School, Class of 1940. It was on July 12, 1947 that Rose joined in marriage with James C. Baldwin at Blessed Sacrament Church rectory in Mohawk. The couple shared in a blessed union of nearly 53 years until the passing of Mr. Baldwin on March 2, 2000. Rose worked at one time with General Electric. She was last employed with the Country Manor (formerly Herkimer County Home for the Aged, as it was known). Amongst many important duties at the facility, she worked in the dietary department. She retired in 1987. Rose was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, and also enjoyed memberships with the Purple Heart Auxiliary, the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary, and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens in Frankfort. Rose was a kind and gentle woman. Her family shines in memory of her willingness to always participate in a card game. She was a phenomenal cook. Her recipes shall live on forever. Rose is survived by her loving family: two daughters and sons in law: Barbara J. Wiers and husband Thomas of Mohawk; Judith A. Mason and husband James of Cape Vincent, NY; grandchildren: James Mason, Jr. and fiancé Danielle; Joseph Mason and wife Traci; John Mason, and Katelyn Wiers; great grandchild: Joshua Mason; brothers and sisters: Enos Nicolette and his wife Lillian of Mohawk; Vincent "Babe" Nicolette of Schuyler; Marion Pizer of Frankfort; John Nicolette of Frankfort; and Madeline Stephenson and her husband John of Ilion; many nieces nephews and cousins; and in laws: Raymond Baldwin and Ruth Riel. Rose was preceded in death by her brothers: Angelo, Salvatore "Sam" and Joseph, and a sister Julia. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning July 27, 2012 at 9:15 AM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (Town of Frankfort) and at 10:00 AM from the Church of Annunciation, West Street, Ilion, with Rev. Leo Potvin officiating her Mass of Christian Burial, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery, John Street. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home (894-8000) on Thursday July 26, from 4-8 PM. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Rose be considered to the Mohawk Homestead. It was at the Homestead where Rose received wonderful care and compassion. She was friendly with everyone there and will be dearly missed. Most recently, she received great care from the St. Luke's Hospital staff of nurses and doctors. Donation envelopes for the Mohawk Homestead are available at the Enea Family Funeral Home. All funeral and burial arrangements are under the direction of Kevin E. Enea, funeral director. The Frankfort Young at Heart Seniors will gather at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM and the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary will kindly gather at 7:00 PM.
