Obituary of Harry E. Masle

Little Falls: Mr. Harry E. "Chipmunk" "Baby" Masle, 88, of 41 Furnace Street, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, August 13, 2012. Harry was born on August 5, 1924 in Little Falls, the son of the late Michael and Josephine Masle. He was a lifelong resident of Little Falls and was educated in local schools. His marriage to Eleanor Ervin took place in Middleville, NY, at St. Michael Episcopal Church on February 10, 1951. Eleanor passed away on May 24, 1991. Mr. Masle, a decorated war hero, was a veteran of World War II. He served in the United States Army Air Force as an armor gunner on a B-17 stationed at Thurleigh, England with the 8th Air Force, the 306th Bomb Group, and 367 Bomb Squad. Harry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation, and E.T.O. Ribbon with 3 battle stars. He was honorably discharged on October 20, 1945 holding the rank of ASA S/Sgt. Harry was employed by Sperry UNIVAC and Remington Arms. He was a member of the American Legion Post #31, Little Falls, and served as Commander in 1976 and 1977. He was awarded Legionnaire of the Year in 1979. Harry was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #92, in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada, the Little Falls VFW Post #4612, the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club and 306th Bomb Group Association. He also enjoyed membership with the Polish Community Home, Little Falls. Harry loved his family and friends, and had many hobbies and interests, such as bowling, shuffleboard, fishing, bowling tournaments with the American Legion and boating. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. At one time, he was the owner and operator of Seely Island Club in Little Falls. Mr. Masle is survived by a son, David, of Little Falls, and a daughter Reba Keyser and her boyfriend, Robert Bullock, also of Little Falls; grandchildren, Jacob Masle of Little Falls, Cassandra Keyser of Utica and her boyfriend Chad Lewis and Amanda Keyser and her boyfriend LeRoy Snyder, also of Little Falls; and great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Cresong of Little Falls and Octavious Lewis of Utica. He also leaves his in-laws, Mary Ervin of Herkimer and Sarah Ervin of Middleville, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor, and a son, William Masle on April 4, 2011. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 5-8 pm at Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls. Harry's funeral will be conducted at the funeral home at 10 am on Friday, August 17 by the Reverend Doctor Steven Scarcia, Rector, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Shells Bush Road, Little Falls. The Little Falls American Legion and VFW will meet at the funeral home at 6 pm, to conduct a joint service in honor of their fellow veteran.
