Obituary of Grace Elizabeth Mabbett

Grace Elizabeth Mabbett, 89, of Ilion and formerly of Mohawk, passed away peacefully, August 14, 2012 in East Liverpool, Ohio, unexpectedly while visiting her son and his family. She was born on November 1, 1922, in Whitesboro, the daughter of the late William and Olive Brakefield Mara. Grace was educated in Deansboro schools. On October 24, 1942, She married Leslie Mabbett in St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Mabbett resided most of their lives together raising their family in Mohawk and celebrating a blessed union of over 65 years. Mr. Mabbett passed away, July 30, 2008. For over 30 years, she alongside her husband, owned and operated the former Mohawk Valley Brake in Mohawk becoming a very well known and successful business throughout the Mohawk Valley. Grace took great pride in raising and caring for her boys, her grandchildren and all of her family. She also enjoyed dancing and music especially loved playing the organ. Grace is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Janice Mabbett of Ilion, Richard and Kathryn Mabbett of Weedsport, Daryl and Candace Mabbett of Mohawk, Donald and Sandra Mabbett of East Liverpool, OH, Daniel and Denise Mabbett, Sr. of Mohawk; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Donald McGhee of California; her beloved several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws, Joan and George Lewis of Burnt Hills, NY, Donald and Pearl Mabbett of Canajoharie and Aletha Rolands of Utica and several nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her brothers, Al Mara, Dr. Jack Mara and Tom Mara. Grace's funeral will commence at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer and 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer, where Grace's Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Thomas Lawless, pastor. Interment will follow in Cedarville Cemetery, Cedarville, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Relatives and Friends are invited to pay their respects from 5-8p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Enea Family Funeral Home. Contributions, in Grace's memory, may be offered to Catholic Charities or the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
