Ilion: Mrs. Irene H. Polley, 87, of S.Third Avenue, Ilion, passed away in Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, August 23, 2012. Irene was born on August 6, 1925 In Meriden, CT, a daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Tomkiewicz) Cashman. She was educated in Ilion, and was a member of the Class of 1944. On August 3, 1946, she and Earl Polley were united in marriage, and they shared a loving union of twenty-nine years, until his passing in June of 1975. Irene worked as a sales clerk for many years in Howland's Department Store, Herkimer. She was a faithful communicant of Annunciation Church in Ilion. Irene was a member of the Catholic Daughters, and the Ilion Moose Club, attaining the positions of Senior Regent and the Green Cap Degree. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, and bowling, but most of all, she enjoyed the company of her loving family. She leaves 2 daughters, Carol Mocko and her husband Robert, Diane McTiernan and her husband Jeffrey, all of Ilion; a son, David Polley and his wife Judith of Ohio; beloved grandchildren, Kenneth and Carol Mocko of Hawaii, Lisa and Geoffrey Lawton of Mohawk, and Nicholas and Nolan Polley of Ohio; along with a great-grandchild, Luke Lawton. She is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Snider and her husband George of Frankfort and Elizabeth Luke and her husband Robert of Ilion; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving her are her in-laws, Donald and Jane Polley of Ilion. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Earl; a great-grandchild, Gracie Lawton; brothers, John and Raymond Cashman; and a sister, Florence Plunkett. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, August 26, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (town of Frankfort). Irene's Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Anthony Barratt, assisted by Deacon James Bower, on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Annunciation Church, West Street, Ilion. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Irene's family would to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, for the excellent care and compassion shown to her and them during her stay.
