Obituary of Charles A. Noll

ILION - Charles "Charlie" A. Noll, age 75, of S. Fourth Ave., Ilion, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. He was born on July 1, 1937, in Ilion, the son of Alfred and Mildred (Van Valkenburg) Noll, and graduated from Ilion High School. Charlie served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He later played Semi-Professional Football. On August 22, 1959, Charlie was united in marriage to Barbara Broat in Annunciation Church, Ilion. Charlie worked in many service fields. He was an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Marcy Psychiatric Center for many years. He became increasingly involved in representing the rights of state employees and was eventually elected Chapter President of the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA). Prior to his retirement, Charlie represented workers as a Field Representative for the Public Employees Federation (PEF) of New York State. Charlie had a passion for helping others. He coached hundreds of Ilion children at all levels of baseball, including Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends and loved everything "Ilion". Charlie was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ilion, Elks Lodge, and a former member of the Moose Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Laura Bay and her husband, James, of Baldwinsville, NY; his sons, Eric Noll and his wife, Marianne, of Valatie, NY, and Brett Noll and his wife, Elizabeth Mahler Noll, of Yorktown, VA; his eight grandchildren, DeAnna and Michael Bay, Kenneth and Kathryn Noll, and Kelsey, Joseph, Isaac and Allison Noll; his sister-in-law, Carol Noll May, of Florida; one niece; two nephews; and his cherished dog, Squeakers. Charlie was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Jack Noll; his niece, Michelle Noll; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Elsie Broat. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Victor McKusick, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Friday, September 14, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. The Ilion Elks Lodge service will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
