Obituary of Matthew Turnbull Morton Paterson

CAROGA LAKE Mr.Matthew Turnbull Morton Paterson, 75, of Caroga Lake, NY, passed away on September 12, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Matt was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 13, 1936 to William Paterson and Janet Turnbull Paterson. He spent his early childhood in the small town of Kilmarnock in Scotland by the Irish Sea. At age 14, along with his parents, he moved to the United States. At age 17, he joined the United States Air Force and served 12 years as a radar operator and a Non-Commissioned Officer at various assignments in South Korea, Japan, Spain and the United States. After his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, he took over his father's small business and became president of Paterson Supply Inc He later went on to run Conestoga Americana, Inc. as the sole proprieter. Matt lived in New Hartford, Frankfort, and Utica before retiring to Caroga Lake, NY. His business headquarters were located in Utica and Marcy NY. Matt was an avid hockey fan and was invested as a part owner of the Utica Mohawks Hockey Club from 1978-1980. He was a member of the Ziyara Shrine and of Westminster Presbyterian Church, both in Utica. Those who knew Matt knew him to be a proud father with strong convictions and belief in his country and family. Matt is survived by his wife of 18 years, Mary Lou Paterson, of Caroga Lake, NY. He is also survived by his sons Mark (Lianne) Paterson of Arlington Heights IL and Eric Paterson of Colorado Springs, CO, his daughter Inga (Luis) Zuniga of West Orange, NJ, his son Bruce Paterson of Utica, NY, and his daughter Jill (Heath) King of Fayetteville, NC. He is also survived by seven grandsons, one granddaughter, three nephews, and two nieces. He is predeceased by his oldest son, Brian Paterson, and his sisters, Alice Gleason and Eileen Burns. In keeping with his wishes there are no calling hours , but a memorial service will be held at the North Bush United Methodist Church in Johnstown, NY, on Friday September 14, 2012 at 12 pm with Pastor Kathy Reese officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Air Force..
