Obituary of Florida Ruffalo

HERKIMER-MOHAWK: Florida M. Ruffalo, age 93, a longtime Herkimer-Mohawk resident, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Masonic Care Community. She was born on September 1, 1919, in St. Joseph De Orleans, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Alfred and Arzelie (Scanlon) Frechette. Florida was educated in Tupper Lake and Herkimer Schools and worked as an LPN for many years at Mohawk Valley Hospital in Ilion. She was married to Anthony Ruffalo who predeceased her in 1991. Florida was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Rosary, Columbiettes, Catholic Daughters of America, the Legion of Mary and Sts. Anthony & Joseph Parish of Herkimer. Florida led a full life and was a wonderful grandmother. She enjoyed visiting the sick and was a caretaker to the shut-ins and her family. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Skip Brown and Tiffany Mann, Kristin Lawson and husband David, Scott Brown and wife Cindy, Curt Brown and wife Jenny and Karen Brown; her cherished great-grandchildren, Joey Lawson, Ben, Sam, Coco, and Wilhelmina Brown; her sister, Bernadette Orendorff and husband Gerald of Mohawk, her niece's and caretakers, Phyllis Rocco and Theresa Maury and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Florida was predeceased by her daughter Shirley Ann Brown in 1992, her sisters, Alma Lefebvre, Lucille DePietro, Rosa Sassone, Ida Parese, Louise Servadio; her brothers, Hector, Leon, Mendoza, Arsen, Octave and Rene Frechette. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Florida's funeral will commence on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home and at 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Antony & Joseph Church, S. Main Street, Herkimer, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Alfred Lamanna. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. In lieu of floral arrangements, as an expression of sympathy, Mass Cards may be made to Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family is being cared for by Harry J. Enea, Funeral Director.
