Obituary of Ola Gudzy

Albany: Ola Gudzy, 96, of Albany and a formerly longtime resident of Mohawk, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, October 5, 2012, in the Teresian House, Albany, where she had been a brief resident. She was born on September 6, 1916, in Queens, the daughter of the late Pete and Helen Woroby and was educated in Queens. In 1949, Ola married John Gudzy in Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, East Herkimer. In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Gudzy moved to Rte 5s "Jacksonberg" in Mohawk. Mr. Gudzy passed away in March of 1964. Ola resided here until 2009, when she moved to Clifton Park to live with her daughter. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Mohawk Data Sciences, E. Herkimer. In her earlier years, Ola also worked at Gilbert Knitting, Little Falls and Duofold , Mohawk. Ola was a very independent, hardworking and extremely generous woman who always helped others in any way she could possible. She took great pride in keeping her lawn in perfect condition. Ola loved to cook and bake wonderfully delicious apple pies, and in her free time, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Ostrander of Clifton Park; her son-in-law, Nels Hansen, Jr.; her granddaughter, Katje (Andrew) Karas of Cohoes; her great grandson, AJ Karas; her sister, Ann Murphy of Clifton Park; her brother, Edward Woroby of St. Johnsville; many nieces, nieces and close friends. Ola was predeceased by her brothers, Alexander Woroby and Peter Woroby; her sisters, Mary Werbovetz and Nina Ucasz. Relatives and Friends are invited to pay their respects from 12-3 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls. Prayers and Memories will be offered in a celebration of Ola's Life immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m. on Monday. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary's Ukrainian Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Contributions, in Ola's memory, may be offered to the American Cancer Society or the Northeastern Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
