Obituary of Karen Lynn Sporer

Ilion: Karen Lynn (Wagoner) Sporer, 65, of Ilion, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Apline Nursing Home, Little Falls, with her daughter, Catherine Grindlay, and her husband, James Sporer, by her side. Karen was born on September 26, 1947 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Barbara J. Stewart Wagoner and Frank W. Wagoner. Karen as a child lived in Higgins Bay, Piseco Lake, where she loved to swim. She attended Piseco Elementary School and then traveled ninety six miles, round-trip each day to attend Poland Central School and went on to proudly graduate from West Canada Valley Central High School. For many of her high school years, Karen had perfect attendance. Karen married Richard Grindlay and had one daughter, Catherine. Mr. Grindlay passed away. She later married James Sporer and resided in Ilion. Karen was a communicant of the Church of Annunciation, Ilion. She was a proud member of the Marine Corp League Auxiliary, Am Vets, Salvation Army volunteer and worked for HARC in Herkimer. Karen was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her husband, James Sporer; her daughter, Catherine Grindlay and her companion, Jim Baurle; her grandchildren, Cara and Colby; her siblings, Jim Wagoner, Kathy Wagoner, Janet and Tom Germain, JoAnne Wagoner Cruz and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen will also be dearly missed by her lifelong friend, RoseAnne (Knox) Beaudin of Piseco. Karen's funeral will commence at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012, from the chapel of the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion and at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Church of the Annunciation, West Street, Ilion, where her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Leo Potvin with Deacon James Bower assisting. Interment will follow in Higgins Bay Cemetery, Higgins Bay, Piseco, where she will be laid to rest in the family plot. Relatives and Friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.
