Obituary of Julia H. Johnson

Julia Helen Johnson, 86, of Herkimer and formerly of Little Falls, Town of Salisbury, passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 13, 2012, with her niece, Carolyn Buck, at her side, following a brief illness. She was born on May 22, 1926 in Herkimer, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Atkinson Doyle and was graduated of Herkimer High School. On March 27, 1948, she married Rexford "Rex" Johnson in the Herkimer United Methodist Church by Rev. Fred Cotnam. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson made their home at the Johnson homestead in Salisbury. Mr. Johnson passed away June 6, 2004. Together they enjoyed many years traveling, gardening and bowling. Even though they were never blessed with children, Julia enjoyed her many nieces and nephews who fondly called her JuJu. Their dog, Bandy also brought many years of enjoyment. Julia enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball, especially the SU teams (whenever her nephew, Tim Wells played). Though afflicted with Muscular Dystrophy she maintained her independence and never complained. Through out the years she worked in local shoe factories and stores. Upon moving to Nathan Galinsky Apartments, she enjoyed her "penthouse" apartment and the many friends she made there. Julia loved attending the parties and musical events particularly Ernie's violin concerts. Julia is survived by her sisters; Sylvia Barringer of Richfield Springs and Patricia Eckler of Herkimer; her sisters-in-law, Tillie Doyle of Little Falls and Jean Doyle of California and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred, Frances and Betty and her brothers, Joseph, Richard, Edward and Herman. Julia's funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012, from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. Interment will be made in Curtis Cemetery, Salisbury, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the funeral home. Contributions, in Julia's memory, may be offered to the Herkimer County Meals on Wheels program. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Family would like to thank the Herkimer Fire Department and Paramedics for their recent help. They would also like to thank the Herkimer County Office for the Aging for their transportation and the meals on wheels program. Very thankful thoughts would like to be extended to Dr. Freud and Dr. Handy for their exceptional kindness and genuine concern for Julia and her family and also the Little Falls Hospital ER and 3 West nursing staffs for the compassionate care provide to Julia and her family.
