Obituary of Donna Coriale Clapper

MOHAWK - Donna Coriale Clapper, age 73, of 34 Green Street, Mohawk, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012. She was born on April 25, 1939, in the Town of Frankfort, the daughter of Salvatore and Mary Rose (Lennon) Coriale. She attended Utica schools until 1954, at which time her family moved to Ilion. She graduated from Ilion High School in 1957. Donna worked for the New York Telephone Company until her marriage to Robert Tallman, and raised her four children. Her love of cooking and children led to a career of thirty-four years in food service at Mohawk and Herkimer schools. She later married Richard Clapper, Sr., a union of thirty-one years, and was co-owner of Clapper's Hollow Ice Cream Shop, and together they catered many functions in the Mohawk Valley area. She was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church, forty-six year member and past president of the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary and the New York State Food Service Organization. Survivors include her husband, Richard "Dick"; daughters, Mary Kathleen and Todd Brentlinger, and Kelly and Eric Gehring; her sons, Robert and Kathy Tallman, and LCDR Daniel and Pam Tallman; her step-children, Richard and Linda Clapper, Jr., and Amy (Clapper) Netti and friend, Rick Potter; her grandchildren, Kristina (Gehring) and Jason Tomei, Jason Gehring, Emily Gehring, Jenna Brentlinger, Sharra Brentlinger, Lianna Brentlinger, Megan Tallman, Matt Tallman, Katie Tallman, Zoe Tallman, Zachary Tallman, Sascha Clapper, Jarhett Clapper, Cameron Platt, Grace Ann Netti, Ashley Fobare and Alexis Fobare; her siblings, Frances Brewer, Anthony and Pat Coriale, Salvatore and Barb Coriale, Chris and Mary Coriale, and Jim and Diedra Coriale; her in-laws, Robert (Tino) Valentine, Sharron and Jim Hale, Chapman and Sharon Clapper, Doug and Nan Clapper, Dick Tansley, Drew and Chris Shepard; and many nieces and nephews. Donna was predeceased by her father, Salvatore Coriale; her mother, Mary Rose Coriale; her children's father, Robert Tallman, Sr.; her sister, Pamela Shepard; her father-in-law, Chapman Clapper; her stepfather-in-law, Henry Pape; her mother-in-law, Bessie (Clapper) Pape; her brother-in-law, Fred Clapper; her sister-in-law, Beatrice Tansley; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Valentine. At Donna's request, friends and family may pay their respects at the Mohawk Reformed Church on Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Brian Engel officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the Memorial service at the Village of Mohawk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Mohawk Reformed Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the church.
