Obituary of Joseph Gray

LITTLE FALLS: Joseph S. Gray, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with the love and support of his family. Born in Little Falls on May 26, 1924, Joe was the son of the late Ignatz and Wladislawa (Borowska) Gray. A graduate of Little Falls High School, Joe then enlisted into the United States Army in 1943, stationed in Alaska; he served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1946. On October 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Rickard in Bronx, NY, and they have shared 65 years of love, commitment and mutual respect. Joe retired as a commercial artist from Zanders Animation Parlor in New York City. Joe was extremely artistically inclined and engaged in many special activities; as he enjoyed antiques, going to yard sales, painting and sculpting. An avid gardener, he loved puttering in his yard. Joe was a member of Holy Family Parish. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; a son, Kenyon I. Gray of Phoenix, AZ; his daughters, Jacalyn M. Boland and husband Robert of Rochester and Andrea E. Hoffa and husband Thomas of Millbrook; his cherished grandchildren, Shannon L. Boland, Kimberly A. Hoffa and Keith W. Hoffa and wife Lisa; his brothers, Edward Gray and wife Ann of Little Falls and Jan Gray and wife Polly of Haverhill, MA; his sisters, Anne Drapalski of Little Falls and Jane Desmond of Blossvale and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Frank Gray. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Enea Family Funeral home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315)823-2424 on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 9:00-10:15 a.m. Joe's funeral service will immediately follow calling hours, beginning with prayer at 10:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home and at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, corner of Main/John Streets, Little Falls, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Lawless, Pastor. Procession will then follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation to the American Heart Association or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Harry J. Enea, Jr., Funeral Director.
