Obituary of Sarah Hopson

Mrs. Sarah A. Hopson 81 of 53 South Main Street Dolgeville, died unexpectedly Tuesday October 30, 2012 at her residence of natural causes. She was born in Johnstown, New York on February 17, 1931 the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Hinds) Wessels. She grew up in Garoga, New York where she attended a one room school house, until she transferred to Johnstown High School, where she graduated in the class of 1946. Her marriage to Elton J. Hopson took place on November 28, 1948. Mr. Hopson predeceased her on September 29, 2010. Sarah was employed for many years as a secretary for the family business, the Hopson Insurance Company in Dolgeville. She later was employed by the former Van Allen's Nursing home in Little Falls. She was a member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, a former member of the Auskerada Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a Girl Scout Leader. She was very fond of animals along with many other interests. She is survived by a son and his wife James and Caryl Hopson of Dolgeville, Her daughters Dr. Laurie Vander Heide of New Haven, CT, Catherine and her husband Robert Farris of Litchfield Park, AZ, Julie and her husband Larry Pettinelli of Larchmont, NY, 10 Grandchildren 5 Great Grand children. She was predeceased by a brother Walter Wessels and her sisters Marion Henry and Betty Alden. Memorial services will be held Saturday November 17, 2012 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church on Helmer Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. Diane DiLuzio will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dolgeville Cemetery. There are no Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Community Animal Programs c/o YMCA 15 Jackson St. Little Falls, NY 13365 or to the Dolgeville United Methodist Church 21 North Helmer Avenue Dolgeville, NY 13329 The family would like to Thank Siri Moore and Sarah's neighbors at Parkside Court for their kindness and support, along with the S & S Ambulance Corps, The Dolgeville Police Department, and Brian Roberts and Harry & Lisa Enea for their prompt response and courtesy.
