Obituary of Anthony J. Gabriel

ST. JOHNSVILLE -Mr. Anthony J. Gabriel, 70, of Little Falls, passed away on Wednesday November 7, 2012 at Faxton - St. Luke's Healthcare with his loving family at his side. He was born on June 12, 1942, in Little Falls, son of the late Ferris and Marfina (Perfetto) Gabriele. Anthony was a proud member of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War from 1960-1963. He received an honorable discharge. He was Captain of the St. Johnsville Fire Department , a certified EMT Specialist and a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion Morris J. Edwards Post 168. Anthony went on to become a Lock Chief of the canals for the New York Department of Transportation for over 20 years, which he enjoyed very much. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and may the family say, was great at it. His favorite team was the New York Yankees. Collecting baseball cards was a huge hobby of his along with feeding his pet squirrels. Anthony will be remembered mostly for his compassion towards others and his sense of humor which brought laughter to his family and friends. He leaves behind his 4 children: Christianne Gabriel and her partner Mike Downing, Anthony Gabriel and his wife Patricia, Kristopher Gabriel and Michelle Gabriel; his 5 step children: Jolene, Diantha, Joseph, Richard and Tracy, his 12 grandchildren: Mason, Daryle, Benjimin, Brandon, Brianna, Alexander, Anthony Gabriel III, Samantha, Ethen, Brenden, Jillian and Torin; his nephew Matthew Gabriel and close personal friends Johna and Cathy. He was predeceased by his sister Cheryl Gabriel and his nephew Michael DiCamillo Relatives and close friends are invited to pay their respects at his memorial visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville (518-568-2300) on Wednesday November 14, 2012 from 1:00 - 2:30pm. Procession will follow to St. Johnsville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with military honors from the U.S. Army and the St. Johnsville American Legion. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Anthony's name be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
