HERKIMER: Robert William "Bob" Delaney, Sr., age 80, a long time Herkimer resident, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at his home, with the love and support of his family, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 1, 1932 in Dolgeville, NY, son of the late Adella (Nee Darling) Delaney. He graduated from Dolgeville High School in 1950, honorably served in the U. S. Navy from 1951 - 1955 where he was a helmsman aboard the USS Luiseno during the Korean War. Bob was united in marriage to the former Roccina Nardelli on November 29, 1952 in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer; a 59 year union built on love, support and mutual respect until her passing on July 8, 2012. He was employed as a machinist by Chicago Pneumatic of Utica for 35 years, retiring in 1997. Bob was a devoted family man and husband, providing healthcare for his ailing wife for many of his post retirement years. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing, camping and spending time in the Adirondack region, touring historic civil war sites, and was an avid NY Yankee and Giants fan, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He supported fellow veteran's past and present, and was a commander of the former Tony R. George veterans Post in Herkimer. He is survived by his beloved family; his daughter, Cynthia Holt and husband Thomas of Utica; his sons, Robert Delaney and Carrie Davis of Mohawk and Joseph Delaney and wife Sandy of Lumberton, NJ; his cherished grandchildren, Tom Holt and wife Kristen, Matthew Holt and Scott Carpenter, Rebecca Corso and husband Greg, Jacquelyn Ciccone and husband Merino, Shawn Holt, Christopher Peterson and Erin Delaney; his treasured great-grandchildren, Merino, Anthony, Patrick, Gianna, Angela, Alexis, Baylee, Mia, Kara and Chelsea; a sister, Mildred Harper of Little Falls, his in-laws, Antoinette and Peter DeNigro of Herkimer, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Edward, and Richard Delaney; a sister, Betty Caley; a grandson Robert Joseph (RJ) Delaney and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Delaney. The Delaney family would like to extend a special thank you to Robert's neighbors and hospice for the wonderful support and care they have provided during this difficult time. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011 on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of floral arrangements, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bob's memory to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association or United Cerebral Palsy; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
