MOHAWK - Mrs. Virginia M. Davis, age 92, of Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at her home, with her family by her side. She was born on Catherine St., Mohawk, on April 20, 1920, the daughter of Richard and Rose Palmer. Virginia was a graduate of Mohawk High School and Oneonta State University. She started her teaching career in 1944 at Berne Knox Central School for two years and then accepted a third grade position in Ilion, retiring after twenty-five years from Herkimer Central School. On July 12, 1947, Virginia was united in marriage to Harold Davis at the Mohawk Reformed Church, by the Rev. Garrett Rhooda. They shared a special and devoted union of sixty-four years until the passing of Harold on March 6, 2012. Virginia's life revolved around her beloved family and she was a dedicated teacher to all her students. She cherished family traditions, events and holidays, observing and honoring them with a pride that she passed on to her family. In retirement, Virginia and Harold enjoyed traveling and their summer homes on Canadarago Lake, and later on Pine Lake, and their many camp friends. Virginia was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church, and the NYS Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Davis is survived by her three cherished daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Cramer, of Mohawk, Janet and Daniel Platts, of Ilion, and Arlene and Karl Tripple, of Ilion; four grandchildren, Joy Barrett and husband, Mark, of Homer, NY, and Daniel, Todd and Jill Platts, all of Ilion; two great- granddaughters, Alexis Platts and Elena Barrett; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband and her mother and father. Abiding by Virginia's request, she will be cremated. There will be no public calling hours, and the funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest with her husband Harold in the Mohawk Cemetery. Her family extends a heartfelt "thank you" to the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Justin, Laura, Judy and Anne, for the excellent care and compassion shown to Virginia and her family. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, New York 13413.
