Obituary of Donald A. Skinner

Donald A. Skinner, Sr., 76, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 9, 2012, at his residence, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Ilion on June 19, 1936, the son of the late Kenneth W. and Ella D. Kinney Skinner, Sr. and was a graduate of Ilion High School. Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, Don resided in Herkimer for the greater part of his life. On November 14, 1998, he married Eunice Daniels Sweet in the St. Johnsville Reformed Church, St. Johnsville. Prior to his retirement, Don worked for many years at the Evening Telegram, Herkimer. Earlier in his life he worked for Mac's Taxi in Ilion for over fourteen years and also was a dispatcher at MOVAC. Don was a member of the Michael Pliseck VFW Post #4915 Herkimer, Ilion AMVETS #777, Herkimer DAV #162, Little Falls America Legion Post #31 and Dads of Foreign Veterans. He was devoted and loving family man who took great pride in all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His most joyous times in life was spending it with his family and loved being call grandpa. Don also enjoyed watching NASCAR every Sunday and cheering for his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. He is survived by his loving wife, Eunice; his sons, Donald A. and Bernadette Skinner, Jr. of Little Falls, John J. Skinner and his companion, Angela Thompson of Gloversville; his daughters, Michelle Allen of Herkimer, Patricia and Pat Stoffer of Texas, Roberta Brian of Attica, Tanya and Daniel Youngs of Poland and Darlene Skinner and her companion, Dean Kent of Ilion; his step sons, Kenneth and Mary Sweet, Jr. of Herkimer, Robert and Tammy Sweet of Little Falls and Richard and Arlene Sweet of Gloversville; his step daughters, Diane Smith of Little Falls, Lisa McCarthy of Ilion, Melissa Stahl of Ilion, Sara and Terry Cambell of Little Falls, Sherri and Clint Wadworth of Sprakers, Sue and Rich Humstington of Florida, Bonnie and Randy Howell of St. Johnsville, Diane and Rick Howell of Canajoharie, Christine Dennis of Little Falls and Debra and Jim VanBuren of Bridgewater; his sisters, Helen and Tom Wilson of Richfield Springs, Joan and Darlene; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was predeceased by his sisters, Cora Mullaney, Sandra and Shirley Bean, his brothers, Kenneth Jr., Earl and Ralph and his very special granddaughter Katelynn M. Sweet, who passed away, November 20, 2010. Don's funeral services will commence 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from the Chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer. Interment will be made in St. Johnsville's Cemetery, St. Johnsville in the family plot. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St, Herkimer, on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 11:30 a.m until the time of the services at the funeral home. Members of the Michael Pliseck VFW Post #4915 are asked to gather at the funeral home at 1 p.m. for a Ritual Service.
