Herkimer: Robert J. Kepner, 67, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at his residence. He was born on August 30, 1945, in Troy, the son of the late Howard and Beatrice Rudebusch Kepner. Robert was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1964. In 1978, He married the former Mary Ferguson. Robert served his country in the United States Air Force until 1972 and served in the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, Robert was employed with Birnie Bus Company as a driver. Earlier in his career, He was well known as the manager of Friendly's, Herkimer and then moving on to various locations for the company for many years. Robert enjoyed playing golfing and bowling during his free time. His greatest love was his family and sharing many memories with them. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Tracey Kepner of Sauquoit and Ryan Kepner at home; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Douglas Yates of Rome; his step daughter and step son-in-law, Deborah and George Foley of Whitesboro; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and William Harkness of Burnt Hills, NY and Jackie and Frank Prescott of Troy; his sister-in-law, Betty Kepner of Troy; his grandchildren, Greg Sweet, Damian Wendell, Robert Kepner, Jr., Cara Yates and Alexander Yates; his great granddaughter, Olivia Sweet; his step grandchildren, Jessica Kelly, Nicole Foley, Michael Foley and Olivia Foley; his former wife, Mary Kepner and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was predeceased by his twin brother, Howard Kepner and Ryan's mother, Suzanne Schoonmaker. Robert's funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, with the Reverend Victor McKusick , Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion, officiating. Interment will be made in the spring in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, Sauquoit where he will be laid to rest next to his family. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Herkimer on Saturday, December 13, 2012 from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Contributions, in Robert's memory, may be offered to the Ryan Kepner Scholarship Fund in care of the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
