Obituary of Sally F. Devins-Catinella
Ilion: Mrs. Sally F. Devins-Catinella, 82, a former resident of Prindle Apartments, Ilion, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012, in Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Sally was born on October 9, 1930 in Binghamton, a daughter of the late Philip and Alice (Martin) Fahy. She was educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. On May 4, 1952, she and Philip Devins were married in Utica. Philip passed away on May 8, 1965. On August 5, 1967, she and Leonard J. Catinella were married. Leonard passed away on December 31, 1989.
Mrs. Catinella was employed as an Assistant Manager of Woolworth's in Herkimer. Prior to this employment, she worked for the telephone company.
Sally was a faithful parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, a member of Court of St. Bridget, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Ilion, and a past member of the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary.
Sally is survived by her loving family; daughter, Patricia Miller and her husband James of Newport; sons, Philip Devins and his wife Sherri of Wisconsin, Donald Devins and his wife Tammy of Newport, Edward Devins, Sr. and his wife Shelly of Lipan, TX; and daughter, Lauretta Fischer and her husband David of Ilion; a brother, William Fahy and his wife Sally of Watts Flatts; and sisters, Frances Peters and her husband Vincent of Utica, and Margaret Burns (husband William, deceased) of Clinton. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Miller, Virginia Devins, Angie Olawole, Donald Devins, Jr., Sarah Devins, Edward, Schuyler, and Sterling Devins, Jon and Bryan Fischer; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Gray, Hailey Stafford, and Jordyn Olawole ; in-laws, Mary Clydesdale of Colorado, Margaret and Jack Bowen, Eleanor and Gene Benman of Whitesboro, Paul and Jackie Devins of Florida; along with many nieces and nephews. Sally was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Alice Fahy; husbands, Philip Devins and Leonard Catinella; children, Thomas, Alice, and Sally Devins; a grandson, Erick C. Miller; sister and brothers, Mary Appler, Philip, Jack, and Larry Fahy.
In accordance with Sally's wishes, there are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass to be celebrated by the Reverend Leo Potvin, assisted by Deacon James Bower, on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Church of the Annunciation, West Main Street, Ilion. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton.
Sally's family would like to extend a special thank you to her extended family at Prindle Apartments and to Rosemary and Marge for their daily phone calls to mom. Also, thank you to the second floor staff of Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center and the Herkimer Dialysis Group.
