Obituary of Raymond G. Watson

ILION - Raymond "Ray" G. Watson, age 91, of Charles St., Ilion, died on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, NY. He was born on November 26, 1921, in Ilion, NY, the son of George and Reba (Bremer) Watson. He attended school in Ilion and Herkimer. Ray was a veteran and Prisoner of War in WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Infantry. On November 12, 1943, he was married to Margaret Boulard in TN. She died on May 30, 1989. Ray was a machine setter at Sperry Rand Univac, Ilion, for twenty years. He was later employed as a machine setter at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, retiring in 1982. Mr. Watson was a former member of the Ilion Elks Lodge and current member of the Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club. He enjoyed big band music and many years of activities at Raquette Lake with all his friends. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Donald Myers, of Liverpool, NY; four grandchildren, Kristin Otman, of Leesburg, VA, Michael Myers and his wife, Debby, of Cross Junction, VA, Brian Myers and his wife, Julie, of Ashburn, VA, and Brett Myers, of Ashburn, VA; four great-grandchildren; several nieces; one nephew; great-nieces; and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Gage. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. John Bassett, Rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion, officiating. Spring interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours are on Saturday, January 5, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., prior to the funeral home service. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the KWVA Wounded Warrior Fund, Post Office Box 51, Lewes, DE 19958. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The Watson family has entrusted all funeral arrangements and supervision to their family friend and Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
