Obituary of Barbara J. Doxtader-DeCarlis

Newport: Barbara J. (Harris) Doxtader-DeCarlis, 76, of Newport passed away peacefully, January 6, 2013 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her loving family at her side. She was born on July 5, 1936, in Dolgeville, the daughter of the late Frank Harris and Loretta (Siver) Harris and was educated in Dolgeville schools. In 1953, Barb married Carl Doxtader. Mr. Doxtader passed away in 1970. She later married Paul DeCarlis; together they owned and ran DeCarlo's Resturant on Bleecker St in Utica. Prior to her retirement, Barb was employed at the Utica Psychiatric Center, Utica, for many years. In her earlier years she was very active in horse barrel racing. Barb had a great compassion for horses, she owned numerous horses over the years. She loved all animals, especially her canine companion, Cookie. Barb is survived by her loving children, Carl and Sharon Doxtader of Newport, Brian Doxtader of Deer Park, TX, James Doxtader of Ilion and Michelle DeCarlis of Utica; her siblings, Donald Harris of Cobleskill, Frank Harris of Herkimer, Linda Button of Clifton Park, Cathy Miller of Johnstown and Shirley Harris of Herkimer; her beloved nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Barb's funeral service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, Town of Frankfort. Spring interment will take place in Dolgeville Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her parents. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, January 12, 2013, from 2 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Contributions, in Barb's memory, may be given to the Herkimer County Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
