Obituary of Clara A. Cross

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mrs. Clara A. Cross "Patty", formerly of Cobleskill passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 8, 2013 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center where she had been a resident since 2010. She was born on March 17, 1941 in Rome, NY, daughter of the late Cliff and Elaine (Georgia) LaGasse. She graduated from Cooperstown High School. On April 23, 1966 she was united in marriage with David R. Cross in Albany. Clara worked at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany in the Nursery. When she and David moved to Cobleskill in 1975 she worked as a Nurse's Aide at Cobleskill Hospital in the Maternity Unit. She enjoyed her work and co-workers very much. She was extremely proud of being able to photograph all the newborns, and later in her career being able to decipher the doctors' handwriting. For many years Clara and her friend Pat Miller were the Directors of the Sunday School Program at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church. She was a devoted Layperson in the United Methodist Conference and active in many Bible Study programs. She was a very humorous raconteur and loved to make people smile. She and David enjoyed taking long drives together to appreciate the scenery. Clara was very active at the Nursing Home and helped organize a Book Club so that she could share her love of reading. She also enjoyed playing canasta and Skip-Bo with her family. She was blessed and overjoyed to be able to spend time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband David; her daughter Kimberli of Scotia; her sons: David R. Jr. of Buffalo and Matthew and his wife Carrie of Kenmore ; her 3 grandchildren: Courtney Rankin, Kyle Rankin and Fiona Cross; her sister in law Betsy Muzzy of Burnt Hills and her numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her son Gordon; her daughter Sara; her sister Emma "Petie" Cornell and her brother Cliff "Boy" LaGasse. In keeping with her wishes there are no calling hours. The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for the wonderful care they gave to Clara.
