Obituary of Frederick L. Rockwood

Herkimer: Frederick L. Rockwood, 87, of the Folts Home, Inc., Herkimer, and longtime resident of Schuyler, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 14, 2013, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, following a long illness. He was born on February 18, 1925, in Stockholm, NY, the son of the late Charles and Ida (Snyder) Rockwood and was a graduate of Malone High School, Malone, NY. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II and then again in the Korean War. On July 16, 1949, he married the former Judy Donowick in Utica. Prior to his retirement, Fred was employed as a machinist with Kelsey Hayes, Inc. He was past president and member of the E. Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department, Past Commander of the VFW Post #8728, member and past caretaker of the E. Schulyer Cemetery Association, active member of the Herkimer County Republican Committee, board member of the District #7 School, a founder of the Schuyler Baseball League and former Boy Scout leader and Eagle Scout Master. At one time Fred served the town of Schuyler as Assessor and Judge and was a Herkimer County Legislator. Over the years, he was a very active member and volunteer for many Schuyler community activities. Fred is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughters, Beth Ann Rockwood and Megan and husband Joseph Eichorn; his sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick and Trudy Rockwood, Jr., Wade and Diane Rockwood and Russell and Sandra Rockwood; his seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Elke Rockwood and eight brothers. In keeping Fred's and the family's wishes there will be no public visitation and his funeral services will be held privately. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family in E.
