Obituary of Thomas P. Stark

ILION - Thomas P. Stark, age 92, of 7 Division St., Ilion, died on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion. He was born on December 13, 1920, in Whitehall, NY, the son of Roscoe and Georgina (Price) Stark, and was a graduate of Frankfort High School in 1939. Mr. Stark was a WW II veteran, serving in the US Army. He was formerly married to Pauline Grenon. Mr. Stark was a life member of the Mohawk American Legion and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Throughout his life, he enjoyed working on cars and could fix almost any engine problem. Tom was a crane operator for Central Steel Erecting Co., Inc., of Mohawk/Chadwicks for over thirty years. He later worked for Rig All, Inc., of Utica, retiring in 1982. Through his career as a crane operator, Tom helped build or expand many of the commercial buildings, bridges, hospitals and public facilities in Central New York. He probably set the steel for bridges you have routinely driven over. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Evelyn Stark, of Sebring, FL; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Lee Welch, of Ilion; three grandchildren, Karen Sportello and her husband, Louie, of Ilion, Julie Marshall and her husband, Patrick, of Carlsbad, CA, and Daniel Welch and his wife, Melanie, of Ilion; seven great-grandchildren, Daniel, Karalyn and Andrew Sportello, Nicholas and Ryan Marshall, and Noah and Emily Welch; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant son, Robbie; his brother, Nelson Stark; and six sisters, Lily Hughes, Ruby Kendall, Evelyn "Teddy" Marvin, Una Deis, Louise Youmans and Jean Clayton. Friends and relatives are invited to Tom's Memorial Service on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion. Spring interment will be in Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort. Calling hours are Sunday, February 10, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to the Memorial Service.
