Obituary of M. Joan Kirkpatrick

HERKIMER: M. Joan Kirkpatrick, 81, of 705 Bellinger Avenue, Herkimer, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the St.Luke's Home, New Hartford. Joan was born on August 13, 1931, in Herkimer, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Fullem) Kirkpatrick. She was a graduate of St. Frances de Sales School, Herkimer High School, St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing and Utica College of Syracuse University. She earned her Bachelor's Degree and spent her career as a registered nurse working first in New York City at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, then returning to the Mohawk Valley to work in local hospitals and nursing homes. Joan also worked in the Adoption Unit for Oneida County Department of Social Services, the Department of Mental Health and also the Herkimer County Department of Public Health. Joan is survived by one brother, James Kirkpatrick and his wife Ann of New Hartford; a sister-in-law, Margaret Kirkpatrick of Herkimer; a god son, Jack Kirkpatrick, Jr.; a god daughter, Julie Kirkpatrick Fatata; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and 3 very good friends who were always ready to lend an ear and a hand when most needed; Dorothy Whitney who always understood; Thea Matterese, a most patient, caring soul and Shirley Weber, a lifelong friend who never abandoned ship. Bless them all!! A special acknowledgement is extended to Anne and Alex Markowski and Betty Albin. Joan was predeceased by a brother, John (Jack) Kirkpatrick. Calling hours will be at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011 on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will commence on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where her Funeral Mass will be offered by The Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor. Interment will take place in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Church/School and to the Herkimer County Humane Society; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family is being cared for by Harry J. Enea, Jr., Funeral Director.
