Obituary of Donald R. Jones

Mohawk: Mr. Donald R. Jones, 82, of Columbia Street, passed away in the comfort of his home, with his loving family at his side, on Friday, February 22, 2013. Don was born on January 29, 1931 in Herkimer, a son of the late Everett C. and Vera (Lawton) Jones. He graduated with the Class of 1949 at Mohawk Central School and went on to receive his teaching degree from Oswego State College. Mr. Jones was an Industrial Arts teacher in Little Falls Central School; prior to that, he taught in Broadalbin Central School and Greenwich School. On July 3, 1954, he and Ann Smith were married in Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk. They shared almost 59 years and, together, they raised their family in Mohawk. He adored his family and grandchildren, and his favorite "child", his beloved pet "Lady." Mr. Jones was a member of the Mohawk Masonic Lodge, which is now merged with the West Winfield Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star, Evening Star Valley Chapter 82. Don loved to travel, especially to his family camp at Moorehouse. He was a member of the Triple O Travelers and the national Masonic Family Camping Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, carving, hunting, and fishing. Don was active in the Boy Scouts and was an Eagle Scout, In 1952, he was the leader of a troop in Pulaski and they attended a National Scout Jamboree in California. Don is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his children: Rodney M. Jones and wife Kathleen of Walton, NY, Douglas K. Jones and his wife Kelly of Nashville, TN, Daniel Jones and his wife Pam of Mohawk, Jeffrey C. Jones and Kelly Benoit of Ilion, and Eric S. Jones and his wife Cheryl of Nashville, TN; 13 adored grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; in-laws, Dick Ray and Alice and Roy Osberg, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Potter, a sister-in-law, Mary Ray, and a brother-in-law, Ken Smith. Don's family would like to thank Drs. Shaikh and Razia, and Hospice and Palliative Care for the outstanding care and compassion extended to him during his illness. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of the Life of Don R. Jones at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (town of Frankfort) on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. His funeral with Holy Eucharist will be celebrated by the Reverend William R. Wheeler, Deacon/Vicar, on Saturday, March 2 at 10:00 am in Grace Episcopal Church, Main Street, Mohawk. He will interred in Mohawk Cemetery II, Vickerman Hill, Mohawk. Members of the Evening Star Valley Chapter 82 will conduct their ritualistic service at 6:30 pm at the funeral home, and the Masonic Lodge will conduct theirs at 7:00 pm.
