Obituary of Madalyn A. Starlin

MADALYN (MIDGE) ARLENE STARLIN Departed this life on Friday, March 15, 2013 to the Kingdom of Heaven with God. She was known in her life as Mom, Madalyn, and Midge. Up until entering the Valley Health Services Nursing Home in June 2012, she was an active Member of the Valley Health Adult Day Care Program since 2005. She contributed this program to saving her life after her By-pass surgery in June 2006, because it gave her a second family. She told people that she had unofficially adopted Cheryl LaQuay (the Director of Adult Day Care at Valley Health Services) as a daughter. Cheryl was a big part of her life for over 7 years. She cherished the time they shared with each other. She was a member of the Valley Health Services Adult Day Care Program's Bell Choir. She enjoyed playing the bells at the different locations they visited during the year. It brought her much enjoyment. In addition she was a member of the duck-pin bowling league. She enjoyed the competition with the other senior leagues in the area. She had a trophy and several ribbons from the league. She was a resident of the Nathan Galinsky Apartments until moving to the nursing home. She enjoyed playing marbles and putting together puzzles with friends who resided there. She had several special friends who resided there. One was Iva Kast who was always there for her in happy and sad times. She enjoyed the Friday Fish Fry at the Ice House because Iva was the cook there on these occasions. She missed her friend Elma who predeceased her several years ago. Alma was one of the dubbed Marble Gang. She gave unselfishly to anyone who needed help whether it was a person she did not know, friend, family member, etc. She shared her food many times with others when she had little. She crocheted many lap afghans and gave to the service members lap robe program. She crocheted over 300 infant sweater sets for infants. She was known by people to deliver the most beautiful and heart felt prayers for them. She told people God worked through her. She told people that she was blessed when one of her granddaughters, Elaine Presley, reentered her life two years ago. She enjoyed the regular visits and chats from her and her helping putting puzzles together. She brought joy to the end of her life. She is survived by five daughters, Marge Adams, Joyce Pritchard, Sandra Lujan, Terry Luckau, Jennifer Borges, Carla (Predeceased her on February 14, 2004) and Janet (Predeceased her in 1952), five sons, Ray Presley, Michael Presley, Edward Presley, Paul Presley and Joseph Presley, four son-in-laws, two daughter-in-laws, sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren Sisters Levetta Rose and Madeleine Carpenter (Predeceased her in December 2012), and brothers Arleigh Randall, Gradin Mower, Sonny Mower, Lloyd Mower and Arnold Mower. Also, she is survived by nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial Service and Reception will be held at the First Methodist Church at 127 Prospect St, Herkimer, NY on Thursday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow the service. Burial (family only) at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Herkimer, NY on Thursday, June 6th at 2:00 p.m. If family and friends desire, contributions may be made in her memory to the Valley Health Services Adult Day Care Program, 690 W German Street, Herkimer, NY.
