Obituary of Harry M. Montgomery

MOHAWK - Harry M. Montgomery, Sr., "Monty", age 68, of 25 E. Main St., Mohawk, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He was born on May 8, 1944, in Richfield Springs, the son of Lyle and Florence (Osborne) Montgomery and attended Richfield Springs schools. On July 1, 1967, he was married to Linda Pierce in Ilion. Harry was employed as a fork lift operator at Union Fork and Hoe Co., Frankfort, for over ten years and later worked at D.J. Ferdula Top Soil in Frankfort. At one time he worked at the Ilion Marina. He was a proud Mohawk Fire Corps volunteer. Survivors include his wife, Linda Montgomery, of Mohawk; his children, Linda Springer and partner, Beth Edwards, of Herkimer, Harry Montgomery, Jr., of Ilion, Kelly Kirk and husband, Michael, of Mohawk; son-in-law, Harold "Skip" Springer, Jr.; grandsons, Sr. Airman Matthew Montgomery and Sydney Parker, of Alaska, Arron Springer, of Herkimer, Johnny Jo Springer, of Ilion, James Springer, of Ilion, and Peyton "Peanut" Kirk; also Daniel Ferdula and Jim Palumbo, of Frankfort, who he considered his brothers; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jill Ingraham and partner, Terry Franklin, of Mohawk, and Harold Pierce and wife, Diane, of Ilion; and many nieces, nephews and family and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Harry Leavitt, Sandra and Lawrence Wentworth, and Richard "Rooster" Ingraham. Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Pastor Gene Kipper officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Linda Montgomery, 113 Garibaldi St., Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. The Montgomery family has entrusted all Harry's service arrangements and supervision to their family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
