Obituary of Edward J. Scalise

Frankfort: Edward J. Scalise, Sr., 60, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, on Friday March 22, 2013, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 15, 1952, the son of the late Joseph and Carrie (Caruso) Scalise, and was a graduate of Frankfort High School. On June 22, 1974, Ed married the former Kathryn A. Tubia in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Mr. and Mrs. Scalise have been lifelong residents of the Mohawk Valley. Prior to his retirement, Ed was employed with Divine Brothers, Utica. He was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. Ed was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. During his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Ed loved shooting pool and was an avid pool player. His greatest pride and joy of his life was being with his granddaughters. Ed was always seen with a can of Pepsi in his hand and a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn; his son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. and Cristina Scalise, Jr. of Frankfort; his daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Chris Slopka of Herkimer; his adored granddaughters, Leah Scalise and Lindsay Scalise; his siblings and their spouses, Joseph and Connie Scalise of Ilion, Ronald and Mamie Scalise of Frankfort, Michael and Patty Scalise of Herkimer and Terry and Rich Virkler of Herkimer; his in-laws, Joseph Tubia of Herkimer, Paul Tubia of MI, Sharon and Bob Hagadorn of Frankfort, Helen and Don Breach of FL, Janice and Mike Makohen of Frankfort, Carmen and Lori Tubia of Mohawk and Steven and Fran Tubia of Ilion; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Tubia. Ed's funeral will commence on Tuesday, March, 26, 2013 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, Town of Frankfort at 9:15 a.m. and then at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Annunciation, West Street, Ilion, where His Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Leo Potvin, with Deacon James Bower, assisting. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, March 25, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially the Cardio Thoracic ICU, Dr. Winn and Dr. Johnson for all of the excellent care and compassion towards the family.
