RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Memory "Mem" Elizabeth Buck - Skinner, age 52, of 1237 McKoons Rd., Town of Columbia, Richfield Springs, passed on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at home, with her husband, John, and family by her side. Memory was born on April 2, 1960, in Shreveport, Louisiana. "Mem" was the fifth and last child of the late Betty Rose Volkman and George Eugene Buck, and traveled widely during her childhood due to George's career in the USAF. Her family travels took her to places like the Island of Guam; Abilene, Texas; and Minot, North Dakota. She spent her High School years in Lufkin, Texas, graduating there and continuing on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. On April 27, 2002, Memory married the love of her life, John Michael Skinner, and it was often said by family and friends that "their marriage is a special dance and only they know the steps". Memory and her husband owned and operated Cozy Haven Farm in Town of Columbia. She worked with her husband John growing and selling sweet corn, summer squash and pumpkins at many local Farmer's Markets. Memory also prepared award winning pies for sale at Farmer's Markets in Herkimer, Little Falls, Richfield Springs, Old Forge, Utica and Whitesboro. Memory and John were fortunate to have enjoyed many activities associated with their love of the outdoors. They fished from New York to the Pacific Northwest. Memory enjoyed all of the hunting seasons. She loved spending time with several very special neighbors and family members around her home in the Town of Columbia. Dearly missing "Mem" are her most loyal companions, her dogs Montrese and Tucker. They both kept vigil by her side up to the end. Memory was the personality behind the Skinner's Cozy Haven Farms weekly Farmer's Markets throughout the Mohawk Valley. Farmer's Market patrons came from miles around for the opportunity to taste her prize winning pies. "Mem's" heart was as big as the wide brimmed hats she wore on warm sunny days. One way she showed her love was by cooking for those she welcomed into her home with open arms. Memory had a flare for Louisiana and Texas cuisine like none other. She especially enjoyed cooking for close friends who came from Alabama to turkey hunt as well for family and friends during the deer hunting season. Although she loved to cook, the hunters always got the better end of the deal. We will remember her fondly when we hear the breeze blowing through the wind chimes, see deer grazing in the distance, or when we do something nice for others. They say in our life our memories are our most prized possessions. "Memory" was certainly all of that to those who knew her. "Mem" is survived by her husband, John Michael Skinner; her brothers, Paul Roger Buck and his wife, Patti, and Roy Robert Buck and his wife, Millie Ann; her sisters, Martha Marie Phelix and Melody Ann Swan; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet and Gary Elliott and Patricia Skinner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Although "Mem" had no children of her own, her many nieces and nephews were an important part of her life and were all embraced with exuberant affection as if they were her own. This cannot be the place to tell the stories that illustrate her love of life, and to list all the lifelong friends whose lives were enriched by her fierce and undying love would be impossible. Memory's Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 5 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at her Cozy Haven Farm, 1237 McKoons Rd., Town of Columbia, Richfield Springs, NY. Dinner will be served from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., prior to the memorial service at the farm.
