Little Falls: Mrs. Stella M. Slopnick, 87, a resident of 228 Church Street since 1955, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Stella was born on April 13, 1926 on West Shore Street, Little Falls, a daughter of the late Joseph and Incornata (Morra) Zambri, who were immigrants from Monteleone, Italy. Stella was educated in Little Falls schools. On May 15, 1949, she and Albert H. "Al" Slopnick were married at St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls. Al passed away on May 19, 1999, just a few days after their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. Stella was a homemaker and was dedicated to her family. She was an active member of the former St. Joseph's Church, now Holy Family Parish and the Rosarians. Stella had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was active for over twenty years with the Red Cross Blood Bank and devoted some of her spare time to Catholic Charities. Stella was an avid reader and frequented the Little Falls Public Library. Among her other pleasures were her lunches and Friday night dinners with friends and cruising around the Mohawk Valley in her "little blue Chevy". A real joy for Stella was organizing a family trip in 2002 to the Zambri family homestead in Monteleone, Italy. She took great pride in her Italian heritage, especially the Italian neighborhood on the south side where she grew up. She is survived by her loving family, sons: John A. and his wife Jeanne of Mohawk, NY, Michael and his wife Monica of Hudson, OH; daughters: Mary Jo Rainer and her husband David of Newtown, CT and Janice Ruh and her husband Ken of Farmington, CT; and a sister-in-law: Emily Sammarco-Zambri. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Jyl Ann Chillakuru and Rajeev Chillakuru of Cambridge, MA, Judith Kotary Slopnick and her fiancé Dr. Ven Sampathkumar of East Hampton, Long Island, John Jeffrey Slopnick of Mohawk, NY, Jacqueline Marie Rainer of Narragansett, RI, Michael Joseph Albert Slopnick and his wife Emily Anne Slopnick, of Ohio City, OH, Zachary Albert, Maxwell Robert, and Samantha Renee Ruh of Farmington, CT; and a great-grandchild: Evelyn Priya Chillakuru of Cambridge, MA. Stella was predeceased by her husband, Al, a brother, Anthony P. Zambri, and a brother-in-law, John J. Slopnick. Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass, to be celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Lawless, on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00 am in Holy Family Parish Church. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Al. In lieu of floral offerings, those wishing may make a donation in Stella's memory to the American Red Cross or Catholic Charities; envelopes will be available at the church.
