Obituary of Anita P. Barberio

Mrs. Anita Barberio, 86, of Jordanville, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 26, 2013, in the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, Ilion with her loving family by her side. She was born on September 9, 1926, in E. Winfield, the daughter of the late William and Pearl Palmer Berberick. Anita was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School and Mohawk Valley Community College. On April 14, 1978, she married Francis Barberio in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. Mr. Barberio passed away March 17, 2002. Prior to her retirement in 1984, Anita owned and operated the Cozy Nook Restaurant in Mohawk for many years. Earlier in life, she started at the VVS Boces, Verona, where she was a teacher and then become head chef at the Towpath in Ilion. Anita was a wonderful cook and had great pride in passion in the food she prepared. During her free time, she enjoyed golfing, gardening in her vegetable garden and sewing. For many years, Anita and Francis would spend their winters in Florida. Anita was a very independent and hard working woman which she instilled in her children and family. She is survived by her son, Robert Hadsell, Jr. and his companion, Linda Maury of Jordanville; her daughter and son-in-law, Constance and Bill Birdsall of Ballston Spa; her grandchildren; Jeffrey Riesel, Peter Riesel, Justin Hadsell and Christopher Lucas; her sister-in-law, Betty Berberick of Burlington Flatts; her four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Anita was predeceased by her sister, Henrietta Piety and her brothers, Frank Berberick and William Berberick. Anita's funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, Town of Frankfort. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home. In loving memory of Anita, the family has requested to kindly consider donations to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
