Shawn D. Wilsey, 36, of Ilion, passed away untimely on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home. He was born on March 31, 1977, in Stamford, the son of Robert and Dorothy Cotton Wilsey. Shawn was a graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Herkimer County Community College. He served his Country in the United States Marines Corp. On June 18, 1999, Shawn married the former Erin L. Gage in Joshua Tree, California. Shawn was a Corrections Officer for the New York State Department of Corrections, Marcy Correctional Facility, Marcy. He was of the Baptist faith. Shawn was a member of the NYSCOPBA, Ilion Elks Lodge #1444, Ilion Winter Club, Herkimer Independent Bowling League. He enjoyed playing and watching sports including coaching Ilion AYSO and the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Shawn was an avid fan of the Yankees and Lakers. He took great pride in the maintenance and upkeep of his home and yard. Shawn was always smiling and had a genuine care for his loved ones and friends. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. Shawn's time with us was but a brief mark in this world, yet the mark he was able to leave touched so many people in so many ways. His family and friends will always hold him near and dear in their hearts and keep their memories of him forever alive. Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Erin; his children, Corbin and Hannah; his father and his wife, Robert and Blanche Wilsey of Jefferson; his mother and her husband, Dorothy and James Johnson of Jefferson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jason and Shawna Wilsey of Jefferson and Patrick and Heather Wilsey of Wells Bridge; his sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Jon Murray of Berne; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ted W. and JoAnn Gage of Ilion; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ted J. and Kristin Gage of Ilion, Jason and Tracy Gage of Ilion, Justin and Karen Gage of Richmond, VA; his nieces and nephews, Caleb Wilsey, Jadyn Wilsey, Nathan Wilsey, Dawson Wilsey, Madison Wilsey, Ava Murray, Daniel Gage, Jason Gage and Lucy Gage and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. His funeral will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013 with Full Military Honors in the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, Town of Frankfort, with his longtime friend, Pastor Jason Thompson, of the Grapeville Baptist Church, Climax, NY, officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and Friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home. Members of The Ilion Elks Lodge are asked to gather at the funeral home for the Memorial Ritual at 6:30 p.m. The family has asked to kindly consider donations, in Shawn's memory, to the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond Court, Utica NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
